Hello!
Those of you who have been watching our #funnylist series on Instagram will have seen one of the questions asked is: “Funniest Movie?”
As the interviewer, I don’t get to answer but this week I did. I appeared on the podcast My Favourite Film. I had a really fun conversation with Gav Smith talking about Coming to America with Eddie Murphy.
You’ll hear me talk about my favourite scenes and quotes. Can I hit the high notes in Oha’s song Queen to be? Take a listen and find out!
Thanks to Matt Zitron for getting me involved.
Thanks also to all of you who applied to perform at Too Far Comedy in April. We’re now fully booked. Apologies if you didn’t get a spot this time. I hope to get you on with us in May - that form will be in this newsletter in a few weeks.
We’ll be back this Monday for more Too Far Comedy and then we’ll be taking a week’s break for the Bank Holiday.
😂 Far Too Funny List
📺 Watching - Consulting! I really like Dan Toomey and his YouTube videos on Good Work and his episode I went to Business School is fantastic. They are satirical news reports where I always feel like I am learning and laughing. I enjoy some of the quick on-screen fonts. The trenchcoat is a great touch too.
🎧 Listening - I listened to a fascinating interview on the Scriptnotes podcast. Usually, it’s mainly about screenwriting and things screenwriters find useful but this was an episode that focused on comedy. Host John August chats with Greg Iwinski who has worked in writing rooms for Last Week Tonight and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Vulture’s Comedy Critic Jesse David Fox. There’s so much riveting information in this conversation. I found it interesting how writing rooms structure their shows and their jokes, and what they write down if they know a joke needs to go in a certain place but don’t know what the joke is at that moment.
📕 Reading - I’m always looking to improve as a MC so I read: 11 Tips for being a great MC - by Caroline Clifford. It’s a really useful list. It has some things that I already do hosting Too Far Comedy. And others that I don’t and will think about doing as I continue to develop.
