Hello!
I loved being back at the Artillery Arms this past Monday following Too Far Comedy’s mini-break (sounds like we made a trip to Butlins - we didn’t).
You never know who might come along to our show. I spoke to one journalist in the audience who had once travelled to Munich to interview friends of Josef Fritzl! Plus - completely unrelated - we had someone who worked on Nish Kumar’s podcast, or as I demanded it be called vodcast.
Who will come along this Monday? You’ll have to find out for yourself. Doors open at 7.15pm!
Thanks to everyone who applied to perform with us in October. We were inundated. Apologies if you didn’t get a spot this time. Please try again when we release the form for November in a few weeks.
After dedicating a lot of last week’s Funny List to Adam Sandler, this week’s list is certainly more highbrow, and British!
😂 Far Too Funny List
📺 Watching - Weirdly enough I had only ever read Stewart Lee’s work (his book: How I Escaped My Certain Fate) but had never seen one of his full stand-up specials. Until now. I’m sure a lot of the comedians reading this will be screaming: “What?” But yes, I hadn’t watched one before. And I wasn’t sure if I would like it. But I loved it. Stewart Lee, Basic Lee: Live at the Lowry is on Sky and Now TV. It’s pretty much about the craft of stand-up and as a comedian who performs and writes a weekly comedy newsletter, this was right up my street.
📕 Reading - Just hours after finishing Basic Lee, I find out that the Far Too Funny List is ranked #248 for humour on Substack. I have no idea if that’s any good but interesting nonetheless. So I go to the top 100 list and see that Stewart Lee’s former comedy partner Richard Herring’s Substack is ranked #37. Interestingly in his latest article Pickled Eggs and Flying Monkeys he talks about being in St Albans at the weekend, where it turns out I had also gone for a day trip. I was just there for a wander, busy falling over a high kerb, but that’s a story for another day. Maybe Too Far Comedy on Monday…
🎧 Listening - The podcast Lateral has just released its 100th episode. Tom Scott hosts a comedy panel game about weird questions with incredible answers. In this episode, Tom is joined by Dan Schreiber, James Harkin, Anna Ptaszynski and Andrew Hunter Murray from No Such Thing As a Fish.
Speaking of podcasts, I’m now a regular host and contributor on the Daily Brighton football podcast. I know this is a comedy newsletter so I won’t bore you with this again. But this week, for our Wildcard Wednesday episode, I created a gameshow!
The Daily Brighton Super Seagulls Gameshow was madness. Using my experience as a Brighton fan and stand-up comedy MC I had a lot of fun doing this. I also created some pretty mental jingles using AI such as “The Transfer Price is Right.”
🎬 New Video
I performed with BGT star and had no idea is my latest vlog. There’s a really nice montage at the end showing some great moments from the first year of Too Far Comedy. Please watch it and SUBSCRIBE to the channel. New videos on a Friday!
