Hello!
I’m still in the United States but delighted to hear that despite the London tube strikes, Too Far Comedy still went ahead on Monday!
Thanks to Stacey Edwards for hosting the show. I actually need to stay in the U.S. for a few extra days so Kristian Allman will be your MC this Monday.
Doors open from 7.15pm.
While I’m away, I thought I’d share some of your favourite Far Too Funny content from this year. This week it’s the stuff you love to read, enjoy!
😂 Far Too Funny List
📕 Reading - I now have a new favourite book on stand-up comedy. Previously it was Adam Bloom’s Finding Your Comic Genius. Which is still superb. But I devoured A Director’s Guide to the Art of Stand-Up by Chris Head in a matter of days! It’s fantastic. It gives examples of exercises you can do to get the creative juices flowing and gives you an idea of the questions you should be asking as you write material. It breaks down different joke concepts and it goes into great detail on how you should construct an hour-long show. If you don’t have it. Get it.
📕 Reading - I’m always interested in finding out how different comedians approach writing new material. Well Neil Thornton’s Comedy Writing Workbook is one of the most thorough free resources I’ve found online. He’s used some terrific sources to put together a very clear, linear process. Comedians, I highly recommend you give this a read.
📕 Reading - There’s an interesting article on Jay Acunzo’s blog: A Prompt from John Mulaney: How to Come Up with Better Ideas for Content in Less Time.
🎬 New Video
Dad’s Last Shot: 3 Gigs in One Day is my new video on YouTube. Some brilliant cameos including Caroline McEvoy, Mark Moloney and Michael McPheat. Please subscribe to the channel.
