Hello!
We certainly had a party to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Too Far Comedy this past Monday. A jam-packed room full of familiar and new faces to see some hilarious comedians.
As fate would have it, the very next day, a new episode of Marc Cox’s excellent Open-Mic Comedy Podcast dropped with me as his guest. I explain how the night came together along with the ups and downs of running a stand-up comedy show in London. It’s a really fun chat and Marc asks some superb questions. There’s lots in there including why I have been a wrestling ring announcer in Qatar. And you won’t believe what I say my walk-on track would be for Live at the Apollo. What would yours be? Let me know your answer in the comments.
Come join us for another stacked line-up this Monday at the Artillery Arms. For those of you who want to perform with us in March, priority access to the sign-up form for spots comes out in this newsletter next week at 10am. After 24 hours it will then be live on social media platforms, so don’t miss out!
😂 Far Too Funny List
📺 Watching - At the end of my chat on the Open Mic Podcast, Marc recommends a recent special with British comedian Brennan Reece. So I have been watching Crowded on YouTube. It’s a unique hour, rather than just straight stand-up he does a lot of effortless crowd work. All prompted by giving his hometown audience questions to answer before the show. There’s a particularly hilarious bit when one audience member returns from the loo.
🎧 Listening - I feel like you can’t turn on the TV without seeing Romesh Ranganathan these days. So it’s really interesting to hear about his journey to the top in his audiobook Straight Outta Crawley. Although I guess that would make the title of my autobiography one day: Straight out of Hove, Actually.
If you don’t have Audible, you can try it here for free for three months.
📕 Reading - You might have noticed that the upstairs room of the Artillery Arms has had a makeover and we now have red drapes. But why do so many comedy clubs have red curtains and brick walls? This blog entry in the Hard Knock Knocks Comedy School explains all.
