Hello!
Hope you had a super Bank Holiday weekend. It was weird not having a show this week.
We’re back this Monday at the Artillery Arms for Too Far Comedy. Please note, there’s currently a tube strike planned for this Monday but the show must go on, so we plan to go ahead regardless. So please work out your travel plans early if you’re performing or coming to watch!
😂 Far Too Funny List
📺 Watching - Dave Attell is considered the comedian’s comedian and he’s back with a new special on Netflix called Hot Cross Buns. I was once told that the best thing about Too Far Comedy is that it finishes early. And while I wouldn’t say it’s the best thing about Attell’s special, I did appreciate and enjoy that it was a shorter show, only around 40 minutes, and even then there’s quite a bit of filler at the end. I’ll save that surprise for you. Dave’s rapid-fire high-joke count draws you in from the very beginning. He bounces through a lot of topics but keeps you entertained throughout.
🎧 Listening - While I never saw the original, the other day I watched the Road House reboot and loved it. It’s ridiculous but just a fun action movie. As it’s not a comedy, not intentionally anyway, it’s not an official pick for the Funny List. But watching it led me to listen to the movie’s star Jake Gyllenhaal as the guest on the Smartless podcast. I’d never listened to this show before and it had me in stitches. It’s hosted by former Arrested Development stars Jason Bateman and Will Arnett, alongside former Will and Grace star Sean Hayes. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation. Gyllenhaal comes across as a really nice guy and there’s great chemistry between the three hosts. And who says podcasts can’t earn money? This podcast launched during the pandemic and was reportedly acquired in 2021 by Amazon for $80m and then this year by SiriusXM for $100m. Wowzers.

📕 Reading - They say always end on the joke that gets the biggest laugh. I’m still working on that. So it was interesting to read the article No One Ends a Comedy Show Like Tig Notaro to dissect how the American comedian has ended each one of her specials.
