Hello!
I’ve never knowingly signed up to a Gong Show (I did one once without initially realising it was a Gong Show, you can check it out here).
I know some comedians reading this do them almost every other week and others like me avoid them.
But tonight I will be trying to Beat The Blackout for the very first time.
If I don’t reference it in next week’s newsletter assume I bombed…
Too Far Comedy returns this Monday from 7.15pm at the Artillery Arms. Don’t worry we’re not becoming a gong show!
If you want to peform with us in December, the application form is coming up in this newsletter…
😂 Far Too Funny List
📺 Watching - After listening to Russell Kane on the Fist of Firsts podcast I referenced a few weeks ago, I watched his special on YouTube, The Essex Variant. It’s a really energetic show from the British comedian reflecting on the Covid Pandemic. There’s a lot of crowd work and a lot of act outs. It’s longer than your usual special at 1 hour 20 but it doesn’t drag on.
🎧 Listening - I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love the books the Timewaster Diaries and the Timewaster Letters. Well the man behind them, Robert Popper, has a new book called The Elsie Drake Letters. I can’t wait to read it and he told Richard Herring all about the backstory on the RHLSTP podcast.
📕 Reading - The New York Times has a fascinating piece called ‘The Interview’: John Oliver Is Still Working Through the Rage. It’s really interesting to hear how John Oliver really doesn’t consider himself a comedian and how the Daily Show puts together their long-form stories.
