Hello!
THE ARTILLERY ARMS IS BACK! HOORAY!
After a New Year spruce up one of the best pubs in East London is back in business.
That means that Too Far Comedy returns this Monday! We’ve got a fantastic line-up. Doors open at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start. Come join us!
Also, 5-minute bringer spots are now available for comedians who want to perform at Too Far Comedy this February! As a subscriber to this newsletter you have a 24-hour head start to complete this FORM. I will then post it on the usual social pages.
Apologies if you don’t get a spot this time. We get inundated and try to make sure we have balanced line-ups.
😂 Far Too Funny List
📺 Watching - This week I watched one of the best stand-up specials I’ve seen in a long time. Hasan Minhaj’s The King's Jester is fantastic. He’s a very smart guy who isn’t afraid to appear clever on stage. I loved his energy and he’s a great storyteller. Minhaj lowers his voice for serious moments to bring you in. Then he ups his energy for the jokes which creates “pow” moments. He covers having a baby, how he came up with the name for his Netflix tv show, breaking Saudi law, and his addiction to social media. Give it a watch!
🎧 Listening - I’d seen sketches from the online duo “The Exploding Heads” about 6 years ago and now found out they have a hilarious podcast called Sports Horn - the UK’s third most talked about sports radio network! Mark Davison plays ex-footballer and current pundit Ian Fiveankles with Anthony Richardson playing his co-host. It’s brilliant. Think Talksport meets Alan Partridge’s Mid Morning Matters. I listened to the episode called Sami Hyppia’s Fam’ly Hoppy and it was as hilariously bizarre as it sounds.
📕 Reading - Jason Zinoman’s Best of Comedy 2023 in the New York Times is a glorious list of great recommendations. I admit I was patting myself on the back when he mentions a few comedians and specials that I have shared in this newsletter such as Nathan Macintosh’s “Money Never Wakes”.
